The Oxford Spanish Play is a society founded by a group of Spanish students at the University of Oxford who aim to reach out to the British audience and have them partake in Spanish theatre and culture. It has been bringing Spanish culture to Oxford since 2011, earning great success last year in staging Lope de Vega’s ‘La Dama Boba’.

The Oxford Spanish Play is fully built on student initiative with the support of the Spanish Department at the University and to have some of its faculty members directly involved in the project. Both the cast and the production team are multinational –all fluent in Spanish – multi-collegiate, and reading courses at all levels of University from first-year undergraduates to college fellows.

The performance will be staged in the Queen’s College Auditorium and will be conducted entirely in Spanish. However, subtitles in English shall be screened.

The opening night will be on Wednesday 29th February and performances will run through to Sunday 4th March. Full price tickets cost £8.00, and concessions for students are available at £4.50.

Please follow the link to their website www.oxfordspanishplay.com for further information and ticket purchase.

You Are Warmly Invited to a Preview Screening of The Border Crossing @ Rio Cinema, 103-107 Kingsland High Street, E82PB 12 noon Sunday 29th January. Free Admission, bar and snacks!

Set in the Basque country, Jill Daniels reconstructs an evocative story of her own past through the wanderings of a young woman on both sides of the Spanish/French border. As she moves towards a violent fate, an unnamed man drives through the rain at night. Maria and Aitziber, two generations of Basque women, talk movingly about the Spanish Civil War and the continuing effects of violence in the Basque country.

Jill Daniels is Senior Lecturer at the Film and Video School of Arts and Digital Industries of the University of East London, Docklands

If you want to confirm your attendance to the event above, please RSVP – j.daniels2@uel.ac.uk ; jilldanielsfilms@gmail.com
